Our Travel Tip - Don't Plan Too Much!

We had a privilege to interview probably the most romantic Instagram travelers - Portuguese couple Carina and Ivo known as @onewayticketrip. Their signature "kissing" images are made in the most beautiful destinations in the world and today they are sharing their travel experience with us.

What made you fall in love with traveling?

The reason why we fell in love with traveling, is due to the way we feel when we do it. Traveling makes us feel free and willing to learn more about this world we live in as well as about ourselves.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Why?

The Philippines. Because there you can experience the ultimate feeling of freedom! And of course, the people. They are so genuine, so humble, so happy (even when they have so little). We think that more than loving The Philippines, we are in love with the Filipinos :)

What's the most interesting thing you've learned?

The most important thing we learned from our travels was that we should be thankfull every day for what we have. For our health and family, for having a place to sleep, for having food on our tables. We are constantly comparing ourselves with those who have more than we do, but we forget to look at those who have less. For those who survive with so little and even so, constantly with a smile on their face.

Most dangerous experience whilst traveling?

Maybe during the El Nido tour in The Philippines. We did it in a pump boat and we found the sea quite hectic when we were returning to the main island, it was tough! :)

What destination have you found to be overrated?

Unfortunately, Bali. We have to say that we love Bali, and we say that because we stayed/lived there during 3/4 months. We love the food, the beautiful nature, the culture, the cafes, the villas, and many other things. But we think it is overrated, and the reasons why we also say that is because you can have an unforgettable experience there or you can have a miserable experience there. When people think about Bali, what comes to mind is the beautiful blue water, the island vibe, etc.. and you can have it there if you go to the right places! But if you don't prepare your trip very well, you can end up in a situation of chaotic traffic, polluted beaches and too touristy.

Have you been anywhere which turned out to be totally different to how you imagined? If so, how?

Not yet. Until now we have never been in a place that was totally different from what we imagined.

Would you rather see a lot of places or get to know one really well?

Get to know one really well! And when we like the place very much, we always try to get back there. For us it is not about counting places or countries, it is about the experiences. For instance, when we visited The Philippines, our initial plan was to stay 3 weeks only, but as we loved it so so much, we ended up staying almost 2 months!

Your go-to travel tip you would like to share!

Don't plan too much! We understand that the majority of people only have a certain amount of days per year to travel, so they tend to overbook things like museums, transportation, restaurants, etc.. In our opinion if you do it this way, you aren't allowing yourself to experience it to the fullest. The way we like to do (may not be the best way), is to adjust the trip according to our feelings as we go.
